This month's theme is reproductive justice!
Come join us tonight at 8:00pm on Zoom as we read and discuss the Boston Review article "Beyond Choice" by Abby Minor, a review essay of a book by Michele Goodwin, “Policing the Womb: Invisible Women and the Criminalization of Motherhood.”
In "Beyond Choice" Minor encourages us to stop applying individualist logic to pregnancy. “This reenacts mainstream white feminism’s most egregious error,” she writes, “the belief that liberalism, with its attendant concepts of privacy and choice, can simply be extended from the board room to the picking fields to the uterus.” Instead, we should not call solely for choice when it comes to our bodies, but equality. Only then can we move from reproductive rights to reproductive justice, and consider the distribution of resources, the social body and its obligations.
